HORSCH and SAM-DIMENSION are deepening their partnership
The focus of their joint work is SAM-DIMENSION’s SpotSpraying mapping technology for targeted control of ISOBUS field sprayers.
Just before application, the crop is captured from the air by the SAM-CAM AI system. Unlike the online method, the camera is not mounted on the sprayer boom. Each field is recorded with millimeter-level resolution, allowing grass and broadleaf weeds to be identified as early as the cotyledon stage. Productivity exceeds 60 ha/hour.
The data are processed offline using edge AI and cloud servers. This makes it possible to handle large volumes of information and continuously improve AI models. The output is reliable and accurate SpotSpraying maps: an overview of all treatment zones and detailed field specifications for calculating the required spray mix. Farmers can see even before work begins exactly where treatment will take place and how much they will save.
The focus of the joint work is SAM-DIMENSION’s SpotSpraying mapping technology for targeted control of ISOBUS field sprayers and highly precise herbicide application, as well as deeper machine integration for convenient use of maps in HORSCH Leeb sprayers.
Implementation requires only SectionControl with precise GPS steering and a terminal that supports SpotSpraying. HORSCH’s highly accurate boom control is a major advantage for stable results. All HORSCH crop-care sprayers can treat both individual “spots” (single plants) and larger patches — from pneumatic nozzle control to the PrecisionSpray PWM solution. The SpotSpraying map is transferred from the SAM portal directly to the HORSCH terminal via myHorsch. HORSCH eos T10 terminals have already laid the foundation for reliable processing of large SpotSpraying maps with excellent performance, even over large areas. Thanks to its machine fleet and sales network, HORSCH ensures broad implementation of the technology on farms — a complete chain “from drone to nozzle.”
Requirements for efficient crop care are rising: fewer active ingredients are available, costs are increasing, and operating windows are shrinking. Add to this the growing resistance of weeds such as blackgrass and ryegrass. The answer is SpotSpraying: precise application where needed instead of blanket increases in dosage rates. This protects crops and reduces yield losses caused by herbicide treatments.
HORSCH and SAM-DIMENSION founders Dr. Alexander Linn and Dr. Robin Mink have been working on this approach since 2019. Today, the cooperation developed over years is moving into a closer partnership: HORSCH is acquiring a strategic stake in SAM-DIMENSION.
